Kurahaupo

What's in a name?

Kurahaupo was the name of the migratory canoe that is believed to have landed at Orakei around 1350 C.E. (It was also the name of a canoe that arrived in Hawea around 1125.) More details are available on the Takoa site.

The domain name kurahaupo.gen.nz came into being in 1989 when the system hosting it resided in the road of that name in the Orakei area, making it among the oldest private domains in .nz. (Of course, that system has had every component replaced several times since then, and in 2001 it was transfered to our holding company Signature Internet Group.)
